Noting that they have started using casts printed on a 3D printer, patented by designer Deniz Karaşahin, for fractures, he says: “For now we cannot say that this cast leads to faster healing, but because it is custom-made and fits perfectly, we can say it provides a more comfortable recovery period.” Pointing out that a 3D-printed cast costs more than a classic plaster cast, Mahiroğulları adds: “We mostly use it for fractures with a lower risk of displacement. It is very practical because it gives the person freedom of movement, lets the skin breathe, and allows swimming in the sea in summer.”
